TRANSPORT OF ASHES / Skeletal Remains
For the shipment of ashes (human remains) abroad, an export declaration is required by Customs. This process must be carried out by a licensed customs broker or a freight forwarding agency, hired by the passenger or client. It cannot be completed directly by a private individual.
Required Documentation for the Transport of Ashes/Bone Remains
A shipment certificate issued by the Frontier Health Office (located at Ezeiza International Airport or Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires) is required to authorize the departure from the country.
To obtain this certificate, the following documents must be presented:
Death Certificate (Original and copy)
Cremation Certificate (Original and copy)
Passport of the passenger managing the procedure (Original and copy of the first 3 pages)
Visa or authorization from the Consulate of the destination country, or Hague Apostille
Once the certificate is obtained, the export procedure will be completed before Customs.
